The Liechtenstein Football Association (LFV) officially opened the Rheinwiese sports complex and the new LFV Campus on 4 September, three years after the groundbreaking ceremony in June 2023.

This event marked an important milestone for football in Liechtenstein, as the completion of the national training centre and headquarters provided a new home for the football association and its activities.

“The LFV Campus is not just infrastructure for one club, but for all seven clubs [in the country] and the association. What may not be apparent tomorrow will certainly become so in the future,” said LFV president Hugo Quaderer during his speech at the opening ceremony.

He thanked the municipality of Schaan, whose partnership was fundamental to the realisation of the project, as well as the governing bodies UEFA and FIFA, whose development programmes also assisted the LFV.

As part of the FIFA Forward Programme, around USD 3 million was made available for the construction of the new campus. “This is not something to be taken for granted, and it obliges us to manage what we have achieved here properly and responsibly,” Quaderer added.

The project involved constructing the Member Association’s new headquarters, technical facilities, and a Category II stadium capable of hosting international youth and women’s football matches in Schaan. Developed in collaboration with the local council, the new campus integrates the existing local sports infrastructure.

The campus features three natural grass pitches, two artificial turf pitches, two youth match fields and two mini-pitch areas, a fitness centre, and a 1,300-seat stadium with floodlights. The campus also includes conference, training and office facilities for around 40 to 50 LFV staff members.

The complex is designed as a community-oriented sports destination, offering much more than facilities for elite football. With public fitness areas, a multi-purpose sports field, a children’s playground and a range of open-access spaces, the site provides an inclusive environment where local clubs, athletes, families and residents can come together and enjoy sport and recreation.

Elkhan Mammadov, FIFA’s Chief Member Associations Officer, also attended the opening of the Rheinwiese sports complex and the LFV campus.

“This is a day of opportunities. I am delighted to be in Liechtenstein for the third time. On each of my visits, I have seen the association continue to develop,” he said during the celebrations, which concluded with a blessing of the facility.

To showcase the facility to interested members of the public and provide insight on the association’s work, an open day was held the following day as part of the local Schaaner Fäscht celebrations. A varied guided tour provided a fitting conclusion to an eventful opening weekend. The first international matches are scheduled to take place at the new LFV Campus soon.
