FIFA President attends Copa América Femenina double-header

  • Gianni Infantino travels to Santiago de Cali to watch two group stage games

  • The tournament is taking place across three host cities in Colombia between 8-30 July

  • The FIFA President attended Chile vs Bolivia, followed by Ecuador vs Colombia

Gianni Infantino visited the Colombian city of Santiago de Cali on Sunday, to attend back-to-back matches in the CONMEBOL Copa América Femenina Colombia 2022.

The FIFA President was at the Estadio Olímpico Pascual Guerrero on Sunday afternoon and evening to watch Chile beat Bolivia 5-0, followed by Colombia’s 2-1 victory against Ecuador.

During his visit to Cali, Mr Infantino met with Colombian Football Federation (FCF) President and FIFA Council member, Ramón Jesurún, as well as with local authorities and legends Faustino Asprilia and Faryd Mondragón. He also took the opportunity to meet with the teams as well as the referees.

Accelerating the growth of the women’s game, maximising impact on global football development and increasing global competitiveness at all levels of the game form key goals of the FIFA President’s Vision 2020-2023, and FIFA and the FCF enjoy a long-standing relationship.

In October 2021, President Infantino attended a ceremony in Barranquilla to inaugurate the brand-new headquarters of the FCF – a major development project supported by FIFA Forward funding.

The Group A fixtures witnessed by President Infantino were the third outing for each team, in the ten-team competition that kicked-off on 8 July, and runs until the final on 30 July. The tournament also acts as a qualification mechanism for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™ – with the top three teams granted an automatic berth.

Following his visit to Cali, on Monday the FIFA President will meet with the President of Colombia, Iván Duque Márquez.
